To protect this vital resource, the State California created Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program. The Priority Basin (PBP) a comprehensive assessment State’s groundwater quality increased public access to groundwater-quality information. Private domestic small-system drinking-water wells in Northern San Joaquin Valley (NSJV) were target for assessment. These tend pump water from shallower parts alluvial aquifers compared deeper, long-screened public-supply region.

Groundwater salinity in the southern San Joaquin Valley
Water salinity in the San Joaquin Valley is a function of depth, location, and stratigraphy. This paper presents a reconnaissance study of water salinity within Kern County, California, using chemical analyses from oil field produced water and water wells as well as geophysical logs. Log analysis indicates that the base of underground sources of drinking water (USDWs) (<10,000 mg/L) slopes from...
متن کاملAnalysis of ozone in the San Joaquin Valley of California
The dynamics of ozone in the San Joaquin Valley of central California are studied by systematic diagnostic runs of the three-dimensional SARMAP Air Quality Model. Air quality in the San Joaquin Valley is the result of a complex combination of local and transported emissions. Simulations show that relatively brisk winds at points of in#ow to the Valley produce a strong dependence of ozone in the...
متن کاملSustainability of irrigated agriculture in the San Joaquin Valley, California.
The sustainability of irrigated agriculture in many arid and semiarid areas of the world is at risk because of a combination of several interrelated factors, including lack of fresh water, lack of drainage, the presence of high water tables, and salinization of soil and groundwater resources. Nowhere in the United States are these issues more apparent than in the San Joaquin Valley of Californi...
متن کاملUnderstanding Public Views about Air Quality and Air Pollution Sources in the San Joaquin Valley, California
The San Joaquin Valley of California has poor air quality and high rates of asthma. Surveys were collected from 744 residents of the San Joaquin Valley from November 2014 to January 2015 to examine the public's views about air quality. The results of this study suggest that participants exposed to high PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in size) concentrations perceived air polluti...
متن کاملDynamic modeling of organophosphate pesticide load in surface water in the northern San Joaquin Valley watershed of California.
The hydrology, sediment, and pesticide transport components of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) were evaluated on the northern San Joaquin Valley watershed of California. The Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients for monthly stream flow and sediment load ranged from 0.49 to 0.99 over the watershed during the study period of 1992-2005. The calibrated SWAT model was applied to simulate fate and tr...
